What is near is not a companion
It becomes dark, the anticipation
Looking out an upstairs window
Lost in screeching flooding terror
Falling, falling, small refuge, sea-less wind

I pretend not to know this dark stranger
Hiding my eyes, pretending to ignore
Hoping to balm my spirit and flesh
So hungry for the foretaste of life
Taking mass quantities of vitamin C
Light & grace dancing without me…tonight

And the stars, my stars now a bloodied mass
Reaching out in paleness to my crimson sun
Drowning water lilies shut their eyes
I have yet to smell the fragrance of dewy hours
In this strangling cell, this hoar of fate
Holding my small room under water

I fight all malformed shadows, loosing the battle
When the clock strikes, it will be sharper
Then I’ve ever known, and I wonder round the moon
Peering out from behind a jealous door
On an uncharted course I’ve never been before

Crows watch from outside my window
With that one dead curious black-holed eye
Afraid to face the wintry grave in rain
The anguished voices moving closer every day
The starved and homeless in the street outside
Beckon me to their side of the track
I take it step by step, going down for one more round
But I see a golden crown in the distance

wow.

That's so the way life is sometimes..BUT, the golden crown is in the distance and that is what makes all the difference.

Oh, my gosh, LeeJ.  The pain in this.  I suffer from degenerative arthritis so I know how it gets sometimes.  But, that last line of the poem....yes!   ....jo

You have a lot to share, “Just do it.”
