The Watcher

Machine I am, not born of man.
No beating heart nor feelings deep.
Yet I travel far, ‘cross this land,
And with sad arid eyes I weep.

Ever the eternal watcher;
Need no sleep, food or even rest.
Bearing witness to what occurs.
To see mankind failing its test.

See rape and murder; foul deeds done.
See the greed, filth and slime corrupt.
See prejudice - their own kind shun.
See the wars and battles erupt.

Hear lost lonely cries of children.
Hear self-righteous belligerents.
Hear cries of madmen drowned in sin.
Hear the vile please of sycophants.

Smell the fear unto each child born.
Smell the vicious odor of hate.
Smell the attar of graves forlorn.
Smell the foul lusts they satiate.

Taste the bitter tang of a life.
Taste the sweet release of a death.
Taste the salty sweat wrought in strife.
Taste the Earth's decomposing breath.

Touch upon each insanity.
Touch the frail flesh of broken men.
Touch those with eyes that do not see.
Touch hands with the unforgiven.

All these things lend no future hope.
Yet still I search and try to find.
Reasons for God to interlope...
For continuance of mankind.

Chris....A wonderful depiction of humanity watched from afar.

Wow, Chris, the last stanza is so powerful.
Ever the watcher = no more Highlander episodes for you! 'Tis a shame to see what mankind has done to this Earth...I wrote a piece some years back called "War of the World"...I will post it in open...we share much the same views.

Wondrous examination of the senses and how they perceive entropy.

Well struck, but you need a beer and to cancel the daily newspaper.
But don't get me wrong, I love this, But I've been to that edge and hung way out for a peek. Come back to us and bring more of yourself, it's fascinating.

God? GOD Christopher? Hello? HELLO - is Chris in there?! Is there a God to interlope? Remembering of course that he theoretically already has and soon he's going to come bounding across the sky in a nice fluffy cloud to make everything all better again.
Oh - how can arid eyes weep dear? Or was that a deliberate paradox? Actually that's more of an oxymoron isn't it? Absolutely love the incorporation of the senses here - really brings your ponderings home. Interesting idea of a test - I never agreed with that theory. Sigh - you are such a great writer...
