Summer Fields

In the summer fields a silo once stood
guard for us as we played beneath the sun.
Baseballs and cornstalk walls made us our own
Green Monster, but winters came and winters
went and the mortar began to crumble.
One year, by necessity, they took the
silo down and left us without a right
field foul pole.  With that we knew our games were
done.  Nothing brought us to that field again.
"Where are they now?" someone asked about the
people in our past who left come winter
and did not return within the year.  They
are in the summer fields with a silo,
standing guard as we play beneath the sun.

in heaven,
everything is fine

I can see them there in that field...the silo standing tall...and if I squint just a little while staring towards the sun it almost looks like they are waving...
Great read.  Thanks for sharing!

Ryan,
I love this poem, too.  I remember the metal silo that we took down.  It made a great tunnel afterward.  Your poem brought back silo and times past.

Sadie and I shared the same silo growing up and your poem brought this memory vividly back to mind!  Thank you!
