“Watch!” she said
as I turned my head again to relive the burn
of sun on eyes
trying not to feel fatigue from knee locked stand
since early sunrise.

“See how the stones scattered as they are”
her voice began to say
“take bites out of your shadow?”

I nodded once and let my mind go
To wander
Thinking more of sitting down
Drinking cool water
Than I was of lessons

“Pay attention” she laughed

Leaving me with head snapping jerk
To watch the stone’s darker mass
First seem covered by this darker part of me
Then to disappear inside the shadow of the stone

“This is how others are”
“They consume and absorb your shadow
but watch closely, for when the sun moves
and time changes
you are freed again.”

“Whole” she said

I nodded as I stared
The slip of time passing me first through stone
Then stone through me
And finally to me alone
A paler grey than when joined.

I looked at her
     And for her shadow too
Wanting it to join with mine
Or mine with hers
But saw the sun passed her through
And only light was there
No shades of grey on ground
No darker patch against the bright

“how can it be you have no shadow now?”
I asked

“Mine was stolen long ago” she replied
“By one who tried to teach me what I teach now”

“I borrow now the greys” I heard her sigh

“For he who was took mine.”

I turned decidedly confused
And stood silent, watching my own
Drift without sound
On this stony hard packed ground
Then heard my own voice say

“Tell me then would you share mine?”

Ron....  I always knew there were lessons in shadows, I just didn't know what they were until now.

Very unique... a great write! I did, however, stumble on the line,
“See how the stones scattered as the are.” Did you mean to say "they" or "arc?" Grover.

sheesh...I just gave her mine..........
(would give your muse mine too)
these are so hauntingly, poetically, superb.

NIce job Ron
LOTS of imagery
Methinks thou has hardly lost thy touch
Not after reading your latest offerings

And come now, you can choose the weapon of your choice, promise I will trample thy rosebushes. These people have never seen such. And we could go back to real time, using the reply section.
I shall even toss aside the broadsword, and pick the equally dented rapier.
It would be fun and you know it. when thou art ready, meet on the foredeck.
By the way, had problems with my white Roses last year- Stuarts and lancasters don't you know.
Sounds like you are still water adventuring. Good for you- really do ennjoy the images these bring forth.

As always
My Compliments
Les Capitain Regarde- ( hoped that would cone back to this tired gray matter.- you know use it or lose it)

Avoir
and Merci
