Perhaps Distance Is Better

Sorry this is sort of lengthy. Just some stuff that I was thinking about today.

If you moved down here
Or if I moved up there
We'd be best friends for life
And everything we'd do
We'd do together
And we'd make people mad
When we finished each other's sentences
And when we made our own inside jokes
They'd laugh like they knew
But they don't only we do
And we'd just laugh harder
And when it snowed
We'd go sledding and
Make the little kids cry
Because we're bigger and faster
And when it rained
We'd jump in the puddles
Until we were both soaked
And too cold to move
And when it was sunny
We'd stay inside and
We wouldn't have to talk
We'd just sit in our comfortable silence
Soaking each other in
And we'd both go home
At the end of the day
And contemplate whether or not
Our friendship was simply that
Or maybe it was something more
And then one night
When I walk you home
You'd stop me beneath a street light
And say something like,
"I've been noticing something different.."
Or something even more out of character
And I'd stop you by kissing you
And everything will change
So maybe you should stay up there
And I'll stay down here
And nothing will ever have to change.
