Old Rockin’ Chair

This old rockin’ chair has been with us ever since Great Grandma’s day.
Six children she did rock by the warm fireplace in the late of night.
Children with sleepy tears, tummy aches and just because it felt so nice to
have someone hold you on a cold winter night.
As time went by the children grown.
The old rockin’ chair went to Grandma Elizabeth.
She rocked her children in times of pain and in times of
loving tenderness.
She rocked when Grandpa Samuel died on a cold winter day.
The snow was a comin’ down hard and mixed
with a freezing arctic rain.
He was in the barn tending the horses that day.
Several hours went by-
Grandma becoming worried, went out to that old barn on that
cold blustery day.
She found Samuel, havin’ the look of bein’ in a peaceful sleep, a layin’ in the
hay.
Grandma rocked for days, not a word she would say.
Until the day she died, she never rocked another day in that old rockin’
chair.
Well the old rockin’ chair went to my mother, in the spring of ‘52.
She rocked her babies like all that had come before.
She rocked when two children died.
She rocked me in her arms filling me with the warmth of love.
Making me feel secure and safe from the outside world.
We rocked in two old rockin’ chairs, when she was old and gray,
and body worn out with time.
That old rockin’ chair now is mine.
It has rocked my son in tired tears and rocked to sooth his little tummy
ache.
One day this old rockin’ chair will go to my son.
But for now-
It sits in a comfy room with bright colored delights and when all is quiet in
the middle of the night.
I sit with a cup of tea, with music turned down low and rock peacefully,
in that old rockin’ chair.

Love Bon-Bon

Isn't that funny..This morning I woke, and your name came to mind. I thought to myself...haven't seen Bonnie for a little while. Well now I know why. I have a rocking chair that I used rocking my son which in a couple of weeks will be 19 years ago. Our most intimate times of feeding are in those wooden legs, that rocked him to sleep. Now it has two teddy bears in it..One much bigger than the other. Smallest with a plaid next tie, the smaller sitting in the lap of the larger bear. A piece of furniture that will travel with me anywhere, and everywhere I ever go. Thanks for this beautiful tribute to that most wonderful little place that is so sacred to this mother.
Love,
Terri~
