Halve my whole
Chill my daylight
Haunt my nights
Show all my wrongs
Hide my rights
Step on my toes
Break my wings
Smash my courage

It speaks of a fear of failure that would eventually lead to control freakdom where everything must be 2000% correct.

It leads very nicely to a conclusion.
