In third grade, Medusa found her,
second row, fifth seat back.
She jerked and twitched her upper
lip as she eyed her prey intently.

The cloakroom was her dungeon,
black hole of isolation.
Narrow, windowless, odious,
assorted coats, lunches from home.

Stuck inside the closet,
walls gulped to inhale her,
languid taps on the firewall,
her collaboration with solitude.

Whip the tongue, lash the skin
with wicked, lying words,
each syllable dipped in a bitters well,
poison oozed from her chin.

Sweat boiled, pores flexed,
chewed tongue of agitation.
Consumer of children
nibbled her pet,
little piggie cried all the way home.

No sun for photosynthesis,
Ruby peed in shades of gray,
All others had escaped the beast,
She only ate once a year.

I'm glad i didn't go to your school ;-} somewhat mysterious to me.  I shall return to ponder.

I can understand the confusion - you kind of had to be there!  But writing this was very cathartic. Thank you for reading it though, most of my work just seeps down the page and disappears..

Becky, this made me shudder in recall of similar experiences in Grade 2!--and that was a very long time ago! Gosh it all came back to me as I read your powerfully, gothic-sounding write! Whew! Thank goodness those experiences are in the past--now if I could only get them out of my mares of night!

Great write!

Linda
