Inside the shadow's shadow

0 posted 2003-09-27 12:30 PM

This was one of the first poems I wrote, after I decided to get a bit more serious about poetry. Written about 3 years ago...Don't have the exact date...

I Am...

A flower made of stone
A feather not so soft
A sun not so bright
And stars that don't give light.

I Am... A turtle without its shell
A book without a beginning
A tree without its roots
And a statue without a base.

I Am... A cut that does not bleed
Fabric that doesn't rip
Gold that does not shine
And a song that doesn't rhyme.

A crayon without color
A bird without wings
A curved road without a bend
I Am a poem without an end....

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.

Like your poem of I Am. I also have a version of I Am. When you have time go to Bonnie j and read. We could have an I AM party. I wonder if we have more I AM poems on the site, a party would be fun?

an excellent style of writing, that is
obvious even in your early works.
