Long, dark, dry, crisp bolts of silk
stretch across the windblown field,
catching a sweet purple smell.
Berries over the hill.

This storm will wreck the drying light,
clotting it in rainborne stains.
Water pebbles collect, tremble
on the smooth-sheened surface.

Once the dimedrops ease their fall,
spattering the hills in mud,
I will walk into the field,
kicking over rainlogged weeds.

I'll bring a small, bright, crystal cup.
Leaning over each damp piece,
I'll pour what remains of the rain
from softened swathe, to mine -- and drink.
