The missing seals
echos of harpooned hunts
spun underwater stunts

lifelessly lined on coasts
exhibit A: mysterious breadknife cut
echos of harpooned spoils
they say the ocean spray toils

"What do you make of it?" says scientist A to B.
"Greenland sharks are too far out to sea
to venture to this marooned, saltwater coast
and leave breadline cuts on seal hosts."

"Much to speculate at mysterious ocean poles," replies B.
"There's not much to conjecture at one fauna loss
if we stop to think that we are not in control
another point for the sea's efficient patrol
where elements of nature ruefully reign...
much to our frustration and perennial disdain."

"And we can barely ferry out to sea
in difficult times, it's easier to flee
from the tales of this watery crypt
another unsolved aquatic script."

When I read this tears came to my eyes. These creatures are a wonder to me, the same as dolphins. They seem so gentle, and loving, and it hurts to hear of mans cruelties. Makes me wish I could rescue them all. Find some way to make a safe haven for them. I just wish it would stop, because it hurts to see this, and feel so helpless. Thanks for the reminder that we are respondsible for our environment. There's only one Mother Earth.

YOu brought this to light very well Martin.
There is an agony in the mindlessness of human beings...
They are all such beautiful and gentle creatures...aren't they?

Thank you all for sharing your ideas. Should have opened the poem differently as the point was not intended to involve us as much as the mystery of the unknown.

The poem was not originally meant to infer that our society is dangerous to animals but that we can never know enough about them to be exact in what causes of their demise is..in this case the cause is not man made.
