the boy with the cap
will always be young
because he is able to see
the innocent child in each one of us
and helps us think positively

the boy who lived
in hard luck times
somehow had insight to know
the things that were really important in life
would eventually come and grow

he helped out his parents
he never looked back, or said
what have they done to me
he’s always had the greatest stories
about “my dad and me”

logging and wood cutting
tractors and trucks, and brakes
giving out on the hill
cows needed milking, the stove needed choking
it was a tough life, but still....

life is a gift
as far as he knows
his generosity, humor, and love
have given us guidance in finding our ways
extensions of gifts from above

his children now
are grand and great
his family spans the map
and all of them have been inspired
by the boy who is wearing the cap

Thank you.
My mom sent me a wonderful picture of my dad when he was 5.  He was wearing a really cool cap, the same style he wears today at age 72! But I'm not technologically oriented so, no picture!

I read in one of your replies that this poem was inspired by a photo of your father when he was 5 years old! That makes your lovely poem, even more special!

Warm hugs,
EA
