Roadside Entrepreneurs

Three boys gather in noontime sun
To enterprise a bit of fun
Table, pitcher, ice, Kool-Aid pack
Small painted sign, “we’ll be right back”

I stopped my car, parked in the shade
And bought a cup of lemonade
Three smiled at me as pleased as punch
Saying, “Thank you m’am, thanks a bunch”

A business plan from mouths of young
As they not discuss ladder’s rung
Nor profit margins, cycles, such
Just business with a human touch

I smiled as I walked to my car
Thinking these three boys should go far
Yet with this world’s bottom line mind
Their business kind I cannot find

Well..this brought a big smile and a lot of memories back to me Patricia.
I always stop at lemonade stands..
These kids are just adorable
and appreciate anyone stopping
to buy a cool drink on a hot day.
Very much enjoyed!

ANY parent that encourages still
this kind of roadside business...

will raise a child that will succeed
in their dreams
no matter when they come.

My daughters were "Roadside Entrepreneurs". Every summer they baked cookies and made lemonade to sell at the stand they made and set up in front of our house.  They painted flowers and lemons and beachy things all over it. I really miss those days!

Enjoyed your poem! It brought back many happy and nostalgic memories!

Ah yes, the Kool Aid stand! When I was little the drink mix was named "Freshie" in Ontario, Canada. Sure was hot sitting out in the sun at that stand....usually wound up drinking all of the business ourselves! lol. Thanks for the memories Patricia, lovely write. Chris

With todays business climate they would be forced to downsize to one worker...James

What a delight this is. *S* When I was growing up, the nearby highway was a gravel road with little traffic... now it's paved and heavily traveled... a kid could do a booming business. *S*
I much enjoyed, Patricia. *S*

yes its such an innocent picture in this world of evil, where a boy got killed a couple of years ago selling candy for his school in this area, and some psycho opened the door, sorry for the sour note; it just is all so sad
