Amusing myself with thoughts of you Confined to the you I thought I knew Restrained to a love that can only be Conjured in a mind deep in fantasy Amusing myself with daydreams of you Beautiful stories of just us two For dreams provide a grand novelty When completely removed from reality Amusing myself with reflections of you Visions of your love so genuinely true But truth cannot enter my reflective mind For in truth, your love I will never find Amusing myself with you - no, not this day For my muse, you see, has gotten in the way Of seeking a pure love that can truly be A fulfillment of the dreams inside of me |

Hello Pat, I like this...ah, the wistfulness... A nice happily ever after fantasy. "For dreams provide a grand novelty When completely removed from reality" I think that the key of love gone wrong, fantasy vs. reality, from the beginning...putting others on pedestals in earthquake region called relationships...knowing, should be forgetting, a fault line will soon knock the one off, onto the other... I thank you for this poem, it is a classic daydream ...but, it opens my thinking...and being single, no matter my circumstances, can't help but still hope and dream of him coming into my life...and being a hopeless romantic that little girl in me would love to believe in fairy tales... Patricia, this was a lovely trip through your mind. Ah, I know the feeling of unrequited love, hah, I am such a loser, I know this too well. I have been in this poem in my own mind, many times in the past. But as for the critique: "Amusing myself with thoughts of you Confined to the you I thought I knew"- Wonderful opening, the second line tells how your mind creates an imaginary and perfected image of the person of you affection, beyond the reality, right? Sorry, if I misread this, but that's what I got from it, and if so, sooo good. "Restrained to a love that can only be Conjured in a mind deep in fantasy"- So sad  "Amusing myself with daydreams of you Beautiful stories of just us two For dreams provide a grand novelty When completely removed from reality"- Oh, I loved this verse. "Amusing myself with reflections of you Visions of your love so genuinely true But truth cannot enter my reflective mind For in truth, your love I will never find"- I love the play on reflection and reflective here, another great verse. "Amusing myself with you - no, not this day For my muse, you see, has gotten in the way"- And I am glad your muse did get in the way so you could write this! Enjoyed paly on amusing and muse, as well. "Of seeking a pure love that can truly be A fulfillment of the dreams inside of me"- Such a good ending! I was planning to comment on my favorite lines, but this was so good, I wound up writing out the whole thing. Oops, sorry bout that, but I couldn't help it. If this is based on a present situation for you, whoever is the object of your fancy is a fool not to return their love to you I hope you find fulfillment to all those beautiful dreams! Mike Fessel |
