We The Living

We the living have our paths to tread
Not for us the ways of the dead
The light they follow isn’t our light
It won’t lead us to their beloved sight
We have to walk the roads we know
Follow the river and onward go
The road we walk may be dark it’s true
But somehow some when we’ll get through

We the living each have a destiny
Something we must do and a place to be
We can’t lie down and fade from view
We have our lives and duty to do
If it were as simple as giving in
We’d be seduced by that sweet sin
But we have a path that goes ever on
Until the day that life has gone

We the living have our marks to make
We must go on for our soul’s sake
Even if you rushed to meet your soul mate
There’s no forcing the hand of fate
So live your life, be all that you will
There in your heart the dead live still
They are proud of you, and know this
Your soul will be held in eternal bliss

We the living must live each and every day
Until the time when to heaven we sail away

It's a long, painful journey to reach these conclusions... but no one could have written better of the acceptance that the feet must keep moving even when the heart seems to have stopped. This is lovely, Mushy One... but not nearly as beautiful as the heart that penned it... and I know that angel on your shoulder is smiling with pride in you and your strength. *S*
