I woke.
I found my Paxil there,
right next to the remote control.
and my lighter's
one third inch
of fingertips
drove me to despair.
I watched the info-mercials
logging in my time
thinking that this
just might be
a bio-rhythm--or something...

I woke.
I found my cigarettes,
right next to the remote control.
and my lighter's
one third inch
of fingertip
drove me--down,despaired.
I stared the pale of patches
logging me in time...
thinking that this
just might be
a guidepost pointing somewhere...

I woke.
I found myself alone
right next to the remote control
holding tighter
one third inch
reaching for the telephone...
I stared into the pages
logging time of friend
thinking that this just might be
a day beginning somewhere...else...

I woke.

Beautifully written -- a study in desolation delivered in a classically executed poetic envelope. I could feel every minutehour of it....
