Benignly this night slows.

A low murmur of feline content
barely ripples the slow undulations
of a chest's measured breath
nested in blankets, sedated
by Beethoven's 7th

Reading glasses rest on an
upraised face safe in the
netherworld bordering
dream and not quite

Only in subtle shifts of
cat or music's movement
do eyelashes slightly dust
the lenses, light as moth's wings

It's the better tired of brighter
salubrity that found me alone in
a grand cathedral but for an
organist insistent on playing for me

As Sun lit stained glass
jewels were for a time my own

A near vacant art library
where huge tomes of Vatican
art whispered respect for glory

and a quartet of innocent
schoolgirls caroled at the bus stop

To dream such would be a
welcome respite

To have lived this day
a blessing

to have lived it a blessing indeed...

Richard, you continue to earn my respect for your insight and way of expressing it each time I read you.

The Gray Man's stained glass reflections--enjoyed sharing your day

Outstanding. Whispering tomes...
Love the imagery, the depth of this.

sublime imagery...content and vocab...always impressive...so much to see thru your eyes...so much to learn from your pen.

Will the wind remember the names it has blown in the past?
With this crutch, its old age and wisdom, it whispers no ... this will be the last.
