In The Dark

Somewhere out in the dark, a bird,
I don't recall I've ever heard,
Is calling in a mournful way,
Down by the creek, where in the day,
I watch the water swirl and flow
Across the rocks that lie below.
I ponder on what type of fowl
Can make this sound. Perhaps an owl?

Half of our lives, we live without
Ever seeing what is about.
I wonder over that, don't you?
Why can't our eyes enjoy the view
That night time brings although no light
Illuminates whatever might
Be passing by, but God has planned
That dawn brings sunlight to the land.

When it is dark, we're meant to rest.
Although we know He's surely blessed
The creatures of the night and they
See just as well, as we, by day.
There is a reason, I suppose,
But only God, our Maker, knows
Why animals see day and night,
While humans need to have some light!

So beautiful! We are meant to rest, but the mysteries of the night ask to be explored ... and enjoyed!
I am a nightcruiser .... it is 2.43am!!
Time to dream!

Shara Rose;  Thanks for commenting.  I do wonder why we humans have to have light to see and animals don't!  There's so much we seem to be missing.

Joyce:  Thank you so much for your kind remarks.  I don't think of myself as a "popular" poet, so it is always rewarding to hear that someone likes my style.

Beautiful!
It seems though, for me, that in the day I find things ging black with an outline of light around people... I'd rather be up at night. I love those owls

Alyssa:  I think it is a special gift to be able to see the "halo" that people carry around with them. I seldom can, but my daughter does all the time.  Thanks for your comments.  I like the night too, but wish I could see more of what is happening!

Oh but I have missed reading your poetry, and you are so right we do not use near the senses we were given, I know that now after loosing my hearing for a bit. I now appreciate things much more.  Great message as usual, your poetry always sends a lesson, and a good one too.

Enjoyed this thought. You're fortunate to live in a place close to nature.
I was raise in the country as a boy. I live in the city now, and miss those sounds.

Thanks,
Melton

Melton:  I really do know how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful setting.  we do enjoy every day.....(except maybe a few very icy ones in the winter1)

We moved to the country in 1971 and have never gone back to city life. Involved some small sacrifices but worth it! Thanks for commenting.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Betty, I believe this with all my heart, and I believe all His other creations seem more closely attached to His Word than we are! (sigh) I only pray we can begin to learn from our cousins, sweet friend, may we have the eyes to see through the darkness, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Betty, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
