A Shadowed Spring

When flowers tell us it is spring
And life returns to everything,
It gives me such a lift to see
The greening bough on every tree!
The seasons turn as God has planned
And joy of it spreads cross the land.
The specter of the war we fear,
Has also come to us this year!

A shadow that o'ercasts the day
And drains our happiness away.
So many that we know are gone
Across the seas to carry on
In any way their country needs.
Some will perform heroic deeds
And some will stay in foreign land.
They are a brave and stalwart band!

So let's remember every day,
As we watch winter fade away,
Whatever waits for us out there,
God gives us strength to meet and bear!

Wonderful Betty.  We are supposed to be too civilized by now, to settle our differences with war.  There must be another way.  Joyce

Amen!!! Though I haven't seen hide or tail of him for over three years, I have a son in the Navy who is stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Constellation and of course your poem speaks to me directly and personally as I hope and pray for our troops overseas that what you have described as a promised spring would come very soon this year....  God bless and thank you my friend for acknowledging our young sons and daughters who serve most heroically in the armed forces.

When is this all going to end.  A wonderful poem but such a sad reminder that we have to live in times of war.

Amen, cause without His strength to help us bear what we are facing, we would never be able to.  Beautiful read with an easy flow!  Can't wait to read more!

Bob:  I'm sorry to hear your son has been away so long.  I know you must be very proud of him, but it is so hard, not seeing him and knowing he is exposed to danger.  Many people in this same situation now. All we can do is intensify our prayers!

Betty, this is so beautifully written and so hopeful. I love the last stanza and taped it to my computer. Thank you dear lady.

"...So let's remember every day,
As we watch winter fade away,
Whatever waits for us out there,
God gives us strength to meet and bear!"
