The guilt I feel grows with every breath I take
making my stomach sick
wanting to stop the pain and stop my breath
but knowing cowardice is worse
worse than the sting of my betrayal
fresh and raw like the lick of a whip

The shame of my selfish night
bears down on me
but i am weak
too weak to carry this weight
too weak to put down the glass
and walk away

The tears I cry fill my hollow heart
my soul left empty and alone
searching for relief
from this unbearable pain

Screaming foolish I'm sorrys into the wind
their cold uslessness a harsh reminder
as they are blown back at me

The sound of your haunted weeping
carried on the wind
cuts my soul and shatters my world

As your pain becomes mine
i lose my name
not deserving it's purity
liar and fake above my acts

Alone and lost
I wander this world
nameless and full of shame
hoping to disappear
to change the past
looking for myself
picking up the shattered remnants as i go

The girl I once knew is gone
her lies exposed, never to return
a broken soul left in her place
crushed by her own choices

Only after the one I love is whole again
can i forgive myself
maybe then i will heal
and this wound will close
leaving a scar, deep and red
an eternal reminder of my weakness

Welcome to Passions.  I love your screen name and pray that's truer than the last stanza of your post.  That indicates that you can not forgive yourself until one you love is whole again.  It's amazing that God's love for us is unconditional, based only on Who and What He is rather than on our merit.

God bless

Hi loved, your poem reminds me of me and the many times I have felt that way.  It was truly a reminder of how the soul gets tired sometimes. just keep the faith and fly knowing that god will always pick you up when you are feeling weak. It was nice.

Guilt personified.

"As your pain becomes mine
i lose my name"

Gripping good line

So many awesome lines to make this soooo real for the reader...Much pain in this write..     But this part really got me--I pictured a child crying....
"The sound of your haunted weeping
carried on the wind
cuts my soul and shatters my world"

Thanks for sharing..great writing (and hopefully great sifting for the soul!)
hugs, g

PS..really awesome title too!

I don't know if it was you who was hurt or if you hurt somebody, but I pray that you stop beating yourself up for it, because by beating yourself up, you are making your recovery process worse and longer.  I pray for healing, release, forgiveness and peace for you.  May God guide you gently and carry you through the storms that may come.
