There was room in the cage shared with rage
not for flight but for music to wing
and it lifted from off of its page
as a seed in the Spring one would fling,
to have heard you'd be drawn to its stage
and the beauty its melody'd bring
but it's since been engaged
to an icier age
where to sadness it silently clings
and it can't be assuaged
in the terrible wage
of the duty that lonliness wrings,
our dreams persevering
its memory's hearing
a voice we hope may again sing

*shaking my head*
You had me from the opening lines...
the phrasing..the internal rhymes..the harmonies...this is enchanting, hauntingly, beautiful, impressive writing....

I just heard the melody...and was indeed drawn to its beauty as it lifted off the page....I heard it when I read this awe inspiring write...your poetry sates this moths craving for melancholy rhymes divine...
My only complaint would be that it wasnt longer...say 20-40 lines more
This one goes in my library.
Outstanding work poet sir.

I don't think any of your poems ever put tears in my eyes and made my heart pound, but this one certainly touched me that deeply.

~I hope so, too~

Warmly,

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Richard, this is so deeply touching, sweet friend, someties it is best to rather be deaf of the wicked lies and verbal assaults that can tear each other apart rather than to risk hearing them! (sigh) May perserverance outshadow the griefs of history, sweet friend, this is heartfelt, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richard, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Richard

I've read this quite a few times...it is music in the rhythm of the words, a song of heart.  You are a pleasure to read.  Thank you!

"a voice we hope may again sing," yes, we do--you touched my heart with this one.
