Between midnight thoughts

Restrictions die and wither,
My frosty lips are quivering,
Enduring the coldest winter,
I salivate for spring.
Frozen streams which once flowed freely,
Through lush valleys so pure,
Now cemented stagnant, crack bitterly,
For her warmth abounds no more.
Oh, how I would have loved to feel her sun kissed vibrance,
Running my fingers through the lovely silken grass,
That sways on the wind in it’s jet black blades,
Undulating like waves into sand as they crash.
Two blazing sunsets entice me,
Peering deeply into my soul,
How then can this glacial bitterness be,
Leaving me shuddering helpless in this cold?
For under the frozen lakes I see life,
Can this frigid heart be thawed?
Icy winds cut through me like knives,
In words as sharp as double edged swords.
Yet I have learned to love this wilderness,
For each snowflake is a mystery in design,
And I am enchanted by its intricate beauty,
Its secrets revealed in this winter divine.
In the hollow branches that crackle and fall,
I see her trust broken and brittle,
Yet in time it sprouts up and blossoms,
A reminder of hope in times that are fickle.
Glazen dewdrops glitter on my face,
These little crystals of hope,
Encapsulate possibilities of a magical future,
Where warmth dwells in the palms of hands that are cold.
I laugh to myself enamoured by this splendour,
For I have found passion even in this mundane artic,
Far greater for when the ice has melted,
Alas! Oh how I can’t wait for spring!

Welcome to Passions...again, Gabriel...
I loved the poem...
But spring...wow, you do think ahead don't you.
I'm still stuck back here in August, waiting for the leaves to eventually turn color...
Thanks for sharing this amazing piece with us.
~ welcoming hugs

Gabriel Frost, like you I can't wait for Spring either, have had enough of Winter, although it hasn't been that bad.
Anyway, I loved your poem and the lovely images you created, will be looking out for more from you.
