Of What Are We Afraid?

If all of a sudden
the world was wild at love
instead of wild at war
could we cope with the millions
that would be added to the score?

Perhaps the planet would begin to sink
its orbit wobbling left and right
and morning would turn around
and end up being night.

Perhaps we’d crash into the sun
or kill comets on the way,
perhaps we’d spin the universe
and annihilate the day.

Maybe we’re fearful
of smiles all around,
it might upset our gravity
and turn us upside down.

The kangaroos of Aussie’s realm
might hop above their heads
because of their excitement
in the changing of their treads.

Perchance polar bears
would crawl out on the ice
looking for tuxedos
believing they were nice.

Well, cuz they’d think they were penguins
all headed for a ball
and that they must learn at once
just how to stand up tall.

Yes, perhaps the love and multitudes
would be harder still to bear
than death and destruction
and Al Qaida underwear.

But I think it would be worth the try
of laying down the gauntlet
and upsetting the rhythm and the rhyme
of Satan’s miserable greed and hatred.

Thank you Barry. I'll send you a copy of the poem that inspired the write. I'm sure the friend/poet wouldn't mind.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,

Your own special humor permeates all that you write...making it more digestible even though the subject is serious. Admire your wit and good thoughts. ThisDiamond

Oh Vas! You have a wonderful thought here!
I especially liked this line:

Maybe we’re fearful
of smiles all around,
it might upset our gravity
and turn us upside down.

It reminded me of something my mother always said about smiles being frowns turned upside down. Hugs to you, and smileys too.
Peace,love,light and happiness

LOL.... I don't think you would have to worry too much about gravity and crashing into the sun.... from earth we come and earth we belong... any multitude we produce from our procreative ventures will still not produce NEW matter and mass... just re-arrange it a little.  great poem and wonderful thoughts.

Interesting thought, Virginia.  We do know, of course, that this IS Satan's realm and war is part of the plan ... sad as it may be.  Otherwise, like you wrote, Earth would sink under the weight of humanity ... or inhumanity ...

Wouldn't it be nice to have the answers?

Very interesting...and of course it is not our fault that we live in a world of opposites...but something we do have control over is the way we view the world and take action...some choose to love and some choose to hate...and everything inbetween...James
