Dad’s Seed Money
By Larry Chadwick

“Dad, it’s time I got a new bike.
I want something better than a trike.”
So off we went to the store,
To see what he would settle for.

There it hung at the top of the wall,
They wanted $200 and that was all.
But I spotted one down below,
For $50 we could just go.

We bartered and finally agreed,
Another $150 he would need.
That very day he made twenty bucks,
Because waiting for a bike really sucks.

At ten years of age that was pretty good,
He did much better than I thought he would.
I went straight to the printer for some business cards,
Explaining all the service he could offer for their yards.

He’s been a money maker ever since that day,
Always motivated if you are willing to pay.
Industrious, persistant and determined too,
That’s my boy and I am proud of you.

In the garage that bike still sits,
Now a Harley is parked right next to it.
As time goes by things seem to repeat,
Kids like toys get bigger, ain’t that sweet?

Karen,
He married one of our best friends. Met her three years after we did at my 45th Birthday Party. She's gorgeous, smart, educated...
He leads a charmed life. And thanks for all those kind things you said.

Yep...the good ones are taken, FAST...
Kudos to your son, and more still, to the
father who instilled the values he's learned
to rely upon...

This is a wonderful poem, Larry. Your son is so smart. And, a money maker, too. You don't find many of those these days. Thank you for sharing this.

A wonderful lesson and a perfect poem to go with it.  Loved the rewards you write of, and I don't mean just the toys!
Nice work Larry~ as always...

Larry C.

You should be as proud of yourself as you
are of your son.  For....without your values,
he might have gone in a different direction.
