The shadows of night come calling,
a light breeze blows through the eaves.
I stand at my window watching,
a slow dance performed by the leaves.
The squirrels are running two and fro,
The humming birds fill up for the night.
Soon the darkness will prevail,
and this all will fade from my sight.

As I turn away from my window,
an ache starts to form deep within.
A feeling that I should be use to,
after experiencing it, time and again.
My hopes and my dreams all seem futile.
Each day is the same as the last.
God how I want to go forward,
but I'm gripped by the chains of the past.

Like raging waters, my love is furious.
Destroying bits of me at a time.
Memories that I should let go of,
but I cling to like a life line.
Each day brings a new hope, that I can forget
the one that will never be mine.
But the ache will always be with me.
For I 'love' only once and for all time.

If you can't make it so,
you need to let it go!
