In the space between moments

River

I am a river, rain-washed
and graying
in the mists

Echoes of laughter
like brittle rays of sun
cannot penetrate
this fog

I roll along
my mysteries falling
away
in soft gatherings
of shadow
and in the curls
of frigid water

And do you watch me
slide by
like the final notes
of a bitter requiem?

I was once your river
nourishing your breath
but now
all I can do
is drown
in me.

We all know that as long as the river is still flowing then it is cleansing itself over every rock and on each turn or fall.  Somehow, I just can't picture you graying and just rolling along.  Your words always give new meaning to portrait poetry and though not all are portraits of picnics in the park, the read is always a treat and a rare jewell of priceless poetry.  Very well written and expressed as I have come to expect of you.  Loved it.

Recognize love for the gift it is and not a need that is out of focus.

Such bleak images you use in this poem; it pains me to read it. These images of loneliness show a world of one hue... Excellent piece of poetry, love, such a river leaves pictures stained on the mind.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Krista, I'm so sorry to hear of your loneliness here, sweet friend, always look ahead for the currents of change for your river will change course and soon, you will join another river of love and happiness which will take you clear sailing from here on in! (sigh) My thoughts are with you, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Krista, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Beautiful and striking imagery here, Krista...
I love the starkness in your descriptions and the way you fit your words together...

Krista, your writing never fails to make
me catch my breath...I never know where it
is going to lead, only that I want to make
the trip, and am always surprised at the end
of the journey...
