A Flower Wasn’t Meant to Speak

A flower wasn’t meant to speak
But in so many ways
A Rose leaves silent missives
In the grace of its bouquet

In undertones of charm it says
“I noticed you today
Perhaps you’d like to meet again
One very special day”

A Rose expresses “I love you,
I’ll stay here by your side”
Sometimes a Rose apologizes
“Sorry that I lied”

A Rose brings cheer, “Please get well soon
I wait for your return”
Or ”Hurry home, the fire’s lit
The love and passions burn”

A single Rose, if it could speak
Would say poetically
The things hard to confess ourselves
And things we fail to see

You handed me a Rose today
It whispers in my ear
So many things that I was simply
Unprepared to hear

It says your leaving me today
You found somebody new
It says “We had some good times”
And “I’ll always think of you”

It murmurs tones of soft regret
“I loved you long and well
But I have changed in ways that
I cannot begin to tell”

It lies upon the table top
About to wither dry
It tells me that the time has come
For us to say good-bye

I never knew a flower could speak
The words you fail to find
This Rose pours streams of sorrow
Into my heart and mind

How can a flower make me weep
A Rose was never meant to speak

LizzieLady~

In petals of velvet softness
the rose has whispered your name~

A lovely early morning treat to read~
I think I'll go to the garden and listen to the roses~

(big hugggssssssss) This is so very heartbreakingly sad, sweet friend, I too know how you feel and I only wish that every rose can have no thorns on its side and that the beauty and love we see in someone can only last forever in that happy afterglow! (sigh) This is sad but beautiful, sweet friend, my heart goes out to you, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Wow...I'm nearly speachless here. Liz, this is a soon to be classic of poetic grace that had me both nearly in tears and in awe at the poet both at the same time. In words I know I've said many times before to you...PUBLISH, PUBLISH, PUBLISH!!!!!!
Love you and miss you my friend

Nakdthoughts, Thank you so much

Margie, And what did the roses say today? Probably that they love your poetry

Noah. THank you for your very kind words

Hoot , your words mean so much and I miss you too. I don't believe anyone would be intersted in publishing my poems, but thank you. You're so dear

Melissa, THank you for requesting that I repost this poem from Open#10. I had forgotten about it.Sometimes it's nice to dust them off and read again

Bsquirrel, Glad you liked the poem, THank you

Melton, Yes you are right. THanks for your comments

Liz

Liz, how true these words are, and thinking back on my life I remember a number of times that a single flower spoke to me, and funny, but it was usually louder than the spoken word and more permanent in my mind.  This was wonderful Liz, and it's funny but this brought back so many memories for me, some good, and more sad.  Hugs dear friend.
