Iraqis looting
society run amok
Antiquities lost

another version, perhaps better capturing the terminal nature of it all:

Society's end
Iraqis running amok
Lost antiquities

being not too pleased with the first, I added another version
Kraw'

This is a great social tragedy, in my opinion, and will likely be remembered along with the likes of the burning of the great library at Alexandria.  We have all lost a great deal, spanning 7,000 years.  It was the history of all of us, not just that of Iraq.  And whomever gets blamed deserves it.

A reflection perhaps, of the years of suppression and absolute total wish to end their historical roots and start with a clean slate? I think of Watts and msny other riots of the past, and see some parallels, albeit on a different scale.
