The Shores of Alone

0 posted 2003-04-10 12:29 PM

Just yesterday I saw his face once more
in an old box I keep hidden away
along with something special that I wore
and books he gave me back in better days.

I saved our movie tickets all these years
the cards he sent, the notes that made me cry
I held the dried rose, now wet with my tears
the final letter when he said goodbye.

I found his cell phone number in my coat
and felt those funny butterflies inside
The poems of love and misery I wrote
and pondered why I ever trusted lies.

These artifacts regress me to the past
and to the love that was not meant to last.

"And pondered why I trusted lies."
I have does this myself a few times.
At times I trusted lies because I so desperately wanted the relationship to work.
Later the lies become so obvious...James

sending you a rainbow, to re-wrap that box.
I find that even sad memories of love can be comforting sometimes, and can fill in the emptiness of a moment with a unique hue.

isn't it amazing how a simple object can bring back so many memories and emotions.... my box is actually a drawer, there to remind me of those important moments that made me who i am. thanks for a wonderful read.

God this ache I know too well. I was torn the last time i came upon these artifacts whether to rid myself of them for good or face suffering these moments from time to time. I comprimised and threw out half and hid the rest a little better.

Sandra~ "WOW" Enjoyed very much. It's strange how little things can triger so many memories, and those memories can bring so much emotion to the surface that once was locked away...Paul

And what love's end is not tragic?
But there is beauty in the sadness of your pen.
Well done.

...you got me crying along with you...
Brought up memories of my own. Softly spoken but conveyed an inner strength.

Warm hugs,
