"Oh, the pain,"
he moaned --
someone's grandfather,
someone's father --
from across the hall.

"The pain is right."
A non sequitur for the night,
as my veins kept communion
with fluid spikes.

"The pain is right here."
I turned on my side
as he rattled a cough.
I slept in the gauze
of drugged, dream-filled sleep.

In which the hours grew warm
and still in the window,
as machines pulsed and breathed,
surrounding my bed.

In which the hours grew golden
without latent nausea.
Her picture a flower
that bloomed in my hand.

It just suddenly struck me that my picture blooming is a very odd image.

I love you. Love this poem. Gives me the creeps, since hospitals blow, but...

Beyond glad yr okay, and back, and everything...

remember the sound
that could wake the dead
but nobody woke up at all

lw, you're quick responding! I'm doin' fine. Thanks for the concern, and for reading.

Lorigrrl, yes, I don't like hospitals myself that much. But, this is the only time in my 26 years that I've been hospitalized, and I still say that's a pretty good track record.

Love you.

next time you wanna scare me?

Try saying "boo."

(sometimes it works... )

I'll talk to you about the poem later, you.
First we hug.

Thanks for the concern, everyone. And sen? Hugs back. Basically, I went in for a urinary tract infection. However, UTIs are exceedingly rare in guys, so they were afraid it might be a complication having to do with my heart condition, so they wanted to keep me for observation. Then they found high levels of a chemical in my blood stream that usually signifies a major heart attack has occurred. Luckily, that was a red herring, and, after three days of being fed fluids through a needle in my arm, here I am!

I've seen this happen
in other people's lives.
Now it's happening in mine.
