No Child’s Game

I’m lulled into thinking the past is dead
Then an image of you sparks a flame
Memories resurrect themselves in my head
Playing house is no child’s game

Not all of them are painful
Some tend to bring a smile
Still others tend to prick my skin
Like a disease I’ve fought for awhile

Life’s highway started out smooth and straight
Then somewhere took a bend in the road
We realized we were lost too late
Our wagon couldn’t handle the load

How would we remove all this debris?
Years had filled the road with litter
Dragged along behind you and me
Young love had turned old and bitter

The parting of ways can be a kind thing
releasing partners imprisoned by shame
Like the day we each took off our ring
Playing house in no child’s game.

Cheryl - Very good.  At least the both of you were smart enough to eventually walk away when you saw it wasn't working.  Nice writing.

Dave, thanks for reading. Fortunately this is not a personal account. Just know some people who played the game. Cheryl

I suppose we all know someone who has went through this kind of thing.  I, personally, don't like games, many think I'm a dud, oh well!

Dave, Sorry dear friend but aren't you glad it's not personal.

Irish Rose, I think some people start out loving each other, then gradually it fades and they stick it out for appearances or for their children. Sad but often true. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl!

Just looked you up and wanted you to know that I thought this was a great write.  I especially liked "releasing partners imprisoned by shame".  Wow!  You had me going too though, I thought it was about you. Glad to hear it's simply a great imagination resulting in a great post!

Hope to see you around!

Cheryl,
you made a believer of me too...it must be the realism in your write.

Marsha & Keth, the dynamic duo
Thanks to both of you for reading. I'm glad it was convincing enough to make you feel I had experienced this. Sort of like an actor who convinces you to hate him on screen when he's really a lovable fellow. Cheryl

Noah Dear, Do not fear for my heart. This is not based on personal experience. I've been married to the same hubby for for almost 33 years but I have seen lots of couples live the lie. Thanks for caring and reading. Cheryl
