I sit back watching
As the world passes by
No one seems to notice
The image I project
Upon the window
To my wounded heart

It’s a portrait of a woman
Who seems okay on the outside
To all who glance as they pass
Yet on the inside she feels
Alone in her anguish
Overwhelmed by the past

At night it taunts her
Haunting her dreams
Tearing at her soul
Until she lets out a scream
When she finally awakes
No one is there beside

She searches the room
In cold sweat and tears
Her breathing shallow
Somewhat labored at times
Heart pounding mercilessly
Like a drum in her chest

She curls up tight
Into a little ball
Pulling the covers up
Tucking them in
As she makes an effort
To feel safe and protected

She longs for shelter
Yet the tempest rages on
In spite of her efforts
She is caught in the middle
Waves crashing upon her
As her spirit cries out

It begs for mercy
Tenderness, compassion
Courage to continue
Seeking solace
But most of all
Aching for love

For love
Is perhaps
The only
Thing that
Could soothe
This pain

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

Jennifer,

Wow.. this brought tears to my eyes.  You have NO idea how well I know this.. how well I can relate to this poem.

At night it taunts her
Haunting her dreams
Tearing at her soul
Until she lets out a scream
When she finally awakes
No one is there beside

*****************

She curls up tight
Into a little ball
Pulling the covers up
Tucking them in
As she makes an effort
To feel safe and protected

******************

For love
Is perhaps
The only
Thing that
Could soothe
This pain

I pray for your sake this is based on your non reality.. but if it isn't.. and you are going through this.. know you aren't alone. Warm hugs to you

Hugs,
Tara

I've been this woman.  This is a good write, Lone Wolf, it encompasses the truth, wraps reality around it, resounds with the thud that loneliness is...

you took someone's emotion and put it into poetic form...not an easy thing to do...

Very very beautiful. Yes, you are right, love sometimes is the only thing that can ease the pain. Love does come to all, I truly believe this, and sometimes we let it go too easily... this is why it hurts so much.

Very well written, drawing from the deepest wells of loneliness and pain. I do relate.
Time to send out another magic flashlight to shine some LOVE in those dark corners. And the crashing waves? the ones that feel as if they are a tsunami attack? just look at them in a different light, as waves of LOVE encircling you. These are just a few of the positive affirmation images I have to keep re-visiting daily to keep my feet on steady ground. (Along with Marge's giant hugs.)

Jennifer...Finally know a name...I think so.

A past is seldom forgotten
especially when it does hurt
It lingers on till it's rotten
and lying there in the dirt.

It creeps into our memories
It lingers in our very soul
It robs away our vitality
It takes such a heavy toll.

We must look hard at our past
and try to understand so well
That only we can make it last
in our own mind's internal hell.

We often ask why, so many times,  why did
a particular thing happen...What did we
do to deserve it.  Doesn't it matter
about how we feel.  So many questions.

I had to learn that my past was not caused
from what I had done.  It was a result of
what others had learned as just a part of
their personality.  Their way of expressing
thoughts.  Most of my hurts were never
intended upon me.  I have had to work hard
to learn to forgive,  let myself go and
grow...Learning to love me.  For...until I
learned to love myself...I could not love
others...

Beautiful write...Sad, very true and I pray
it never happened to you personally.

God....Such an aching sad and heartfelt write. It was about to put me into tears. I'm sure many can relate to such feelings.
I only hope that none would suffer from them for long.

Thank you

Had I wrote like this, freely, when I was your age, instead of well....when I did
I would have had 20 more years of being free. Don't stop now.

Tara: Thank you much.  I'm sorry you relate.  I guess it's just a feeling I get every now and then, but I am fine.  No worry there.

Sunshine: I think we've all been her at one time.  The words kind of took over my pen and spilled over the page.  Not sure how, but I am happy to share them.

Seymour: Thank you, glad you enjoyed.

Abigaile: Love does come to all and I believe is worth fighting for.  Thank you much.  I enjoy your work very much.

Coco: Thanks, PoetFriend.  Hugs back to you!

Carolina: You got it right on.  What you see is what you get.  ((((hug))))

Midnitesun: Sorry you relate to this one.  Love does abound in the darkness, just not where we expect to find it.  Thank you for sharing your viewpoint.  I like it.

Karen: I'm not sure where the words came from, but I am glad they found my muse.  Thank you much.  **hug**

James: The healing is coming alone, thank you.  The love?  Well, some things just can't be rushed.

Magnus: Yes, you know a name now.  I appreciate you sharing your verse with me here.  I've often wondered why things happened as they did.  But I've come to see that I really had no control over them.  I was only the victim of circumstance.  You are right.  It's not what we've done at all.  I don't believe the hurt was intentional, but it did happen.  Forgiveness is very hard work, but I am getting there.  Thank you for your thoughts.

MyEnchanted_Melody: First, have a tissue.  My only intent in posting this was to let others know they are far from alone in their feelings.  We've all felt this way at some time.  The suffering I believe only lasts as long as we allow it and I for one have had enough!  Thank you for reading.

walker:

Kathleen: I won't be stopping anytime soon.  Once you get a taste of freedom, you never want to let it go.  Loved the pic, by the way!

Sandra: Thank you, I've been very familiar with it in the past.

Kathleen: You have had the chance to get to know the me that few seldom see.  The real woman behind the poetry and words.  I am still amazed by the woman you see at times, but I thank you for reminding me of the good and for all you've done for me this past year.  I'm proud to be your friend too, hon.  The time we spent together was wonderful and I'm glad we had the chance to meet also.  We'll do it again real soon, I promise.  I love you too, hon.  Very much.

You know, I've read this several times, and even written a poem from the inspiration (in my notebook) I got from it. *sigh* Sometimes we think no one understands and that no one else can see us...but there is always someone else who sees us..even when we don't acknowledge their sight.   just coming back to let you know I enjoyed this.

Your storm of assumption feeds anger I am calm enough to hold inside. Don't pretend to know me if you've never put stretched out your heart with since
