~* Thank You To Lady In White *~

This is for Lady In White who authorized use of her 12 part series "The Letter"
to be used as a reading at a Senior's Extended Care Facility.
The link to her series is below for your convenience.

~*~The Lady Who Comes On Thursdays ~*~
by Mysteria 11/2001 ©

There they sit like people in an autumn park,
Waiting for the concert to begin.
Impatiently waiting, for today they hear the ending!
Such blank faces like ancient newborns.
Gone are all traces of jealousy, hate, anger,
It has floated down drains with soap and disinfectant.
I know that same drain holds all traces of there
Accomplishments, success, dignity,
With bits and pieces of their past hopes and dreams.
Time has stolen their pleasure and hidden
It so far out of reach, that even if they could
Find the door, they don’t have the key.
There one sits, tied to his chair, like
The threads of love that tie his family to him,
In despair, hatred or both.
As I start to read the ending of Lady’s series,
Their faces open wide like old leather purses,
As one remembered I was supposed to re-read
The last chapter in part to tie in the ending.
They all chatter wondering if they know
What lies ahead in the reading today.
I get through it, my mouth shaky,
My blue eyes brim in puddles of love,
For them, for poetry, and what today has done
For 12 people who love the use of words.
With sparkling eyes and the chatter of a
Flock of migrating birds, they start to discuss
The ending, and how wonderful the poet was,
How clever as she surprised them all, then...
Laughter so unfamiliar echoed in that sterile,
Disinfected, and cold lounge bringing warmth.
As I packed up my things to leave I turned,
And two people were for the first time having a
Real conversation about poetry,
And the "Lady" who always comes on Thursdays.

Here is the link to the series, "The Letter", which is excellent reading:

Lady of Shallot ~ Oh thank you!  Glad you enjoyed it.

Martie ~ I gave YOU goosebumps, goodness girl but your every penned word can send shivers up a person's spine more than anyone, so thank you.

Sunshine ~ Yes, it was the anticipation, and the fact they even remembered from one Thursday to the next, and had the first 11 down pat!  I shall share this on Thursday with another two  of the Lady's poems, and thanks for commenting.

Sharon you are a ray of sunshine in the hearts of these whithered flowers. You are like a spring rain on parched memories.
You quench their thirst with your compassion. Your poetry is like a vivid images on lifes canvas. How very special you are!

~* Thank You ~*

I sure appreciate your wonderful words, but the thanks really goes to Lady in White, for it was her poetry that kept them glued to their chairs every Thursday for 6 weeks.  I guess I need another series from her?     Thank you again for your kind words.

I agree with Richard~ this is a selfless act, a class act. You are an angel to those folks and what a blessing this has to be to the hearts of those old people. I was so touched by both your poems today Sharon.

Love,
Kate

The credit goes to you, Sharon, for your selfless actions.  This little series could have sat here in the blue pages, read just among the poets that like such type of work.  No one asked you to pick it up and take it out to share.  But you saw something in it, apparently, which you inherently knew would please the hearts of those you visit, each and every week.

It will be my honor to work on another series...

and I will do my best to keep your listeners "on the edge of their seats."

You do me, and Passions, very proud.  Thank you.

Kate ~ I know a lovely lady in Florida that does this every single day - YOU!  Glad you liked them and here's a big Canadian HUG!

Lady In White ~ They adored your work, and people here should know I emailed our Lady In White the comments each week from the folks.  She had a darn hard time coming up with an ending for her series they had not already dreamed up, so I applaud you in succeeding, as they sat there with mouths wide open!  And...so did I, lol.  Thank you for being the fine poet you are and sharing your craft.

Mysteria
I have been to many old peoples homes and I find them so depressing, there are so many lost souls there who just crave companionship and a little happiness in their lives, surely not too much to ask.  This was so wonderfully written and the imagery was outstanding.
Take care......Sue

Thank you one and all for your comments, and rightfully the credit is for our Lady In White, and with that I shall say she is the one who kept their interest and that is a tough thing to do with seniors who have had strokes, but she did!  Bye all, off to play Gramma, my new granddaughter is being born tonight and I am so excited I can't sit! LOL   Bye.

What a precious gift you give to those dear people who sit and await a reason to smile...and such a lovely contribution your poetess friend so graciously extends you to share with them ~ for a moment they "feel" again...and if even one smile comes from it all...it is a beautiful victory.  This gift of love that you so freely give to them will be forever engraved upon the walls of their hearts ~ and become new memories for them to hold onto.
Very lovely, my friend!
Hugs and much love to you, always,
