In its chill
the wind touched
the recesses of shelter
abandoned with summer's sun

Colder days lie ahead
the warmth of innocent times
now a memory that like moonbeams
can only dance between the leaves not yet fallen

Life changes color
brief existences shine
Then, exhausted, drop to ground
Caught in obstacles
As they are blown

Wrap around you now
The dark cloak saved for funerals
And mourn the passing
Of so many bright days

So deeply and quietly sad......

You have expressed it in such a nice touching way.....

Thank you

So well this is placed, given the season and the change it brings, that one can only embrace it, to know that Summer is past, only to come, soon again, upon Spring's heal....

If fall could remain - and refuse to give way to the long cold winter ahead, it'd be even lovelier... Short of that, it's an awesome season...Well written, indeed, Cpat...

Oh I like this...and this likes me....
right into my library...
this is a very clever write of imagery and metaphor...
we are indeed going into this fall in mourning..and the chill of winter came early, ushered in by loss....
forgive if I have misinterped..but I see you making clever analogies to the incoming season and the tradgedies reaches still settling in on us.
excellent write Cp

Well tomorrow holds only mystery
And who's to say what might be
But in you I found a love so strong
The sun and the moon looked on in jealousy

I wish I could write poetry like this (And I wish I could understand it like JanetMarie   ) Even simply understood, it was a very nice poem, a good tribute to my favorite season.
I enjoyed this, thanks

I've learned to expect excellence from your poems.   This melancholy truth is beautiful.

I mourn the passing of a season only because they are numbered. Bring on the cool and color of fall and the democratic chill of winter to force us before a reflective fire. Summer is for the young of whose number I no longer count myself. Enjoyed

For some reason I had been looking forward to winter this year, now it already seems too cool for the autumn and I wonder if the freeze will be the renewal I had thought.  Enjoyed your poem, as always.

*sigh*  why does it have to end Ron?  Why?  Summer is so lovely and Fall's not so bad either but then comes the chilly Winter....can't it just stay in it's little closet somewhere and only come out for Christmas?

This was a lovely poem and I can relate to it for sure....I've got my cloak in hand!

Hugs,
~Krista

You embrace autumn with such grace and clarity. It's as if you are the leaves, and the changes, and the cool night. You do this very well!

Sincerely,
Regina

I am already mourning the passing of summer. I'm FREEZING. I had to turn the heating on it's so cold.

Lovely write though
