Up Since Three, Stroking the Blue

My life is not "normal", not that anyone elses is.
I can't sleep, for negative thoughts take hold,
grasp and won't release me into my world of hope.

A friend, an old friend, stopped by, holding back tears.
The same, whose daughters last year,
unexpectedly showed up at my door,
needing someone  to console them.
Although I knew them from birth,
I hadn't seen nor heard from them
in maybe three years..not since the wedding of one,
the day when my life began to unravel.

I collected myself...for them.

For they were lost, their mother ill, emotionally
and they came to me for help, support,
to reassure them, not knowing I couldn't even
leave my own home, in need of the same.
And now it was their mother,
my long-time friend, knocking at the door,
unexpectly, after a year of no word, needing again.

Each time, I am there,
doing whatever is needed.
Each time, someone else will be relieved of stress,
while mine becomes insignificant,
for I cannot burden the burdened.
So I de-emphasize my life,
but come away wondering "Why me?"

Why is it that when I "need"
there is no one to offer support,
no one that contacts and asks "How are you doing?"
So that I have come to all of you
with words, not always truth in feeling,
often penning the opposite of emotions, in pretense,
to share what I have, on this screen?

What makes this the means of release,
lines, and phrases becoming the arms that embrace,
words, the fingers that wipe away
the tears of anguish, of heartbreak, of futility?

I am not venting, nor exposing, nor begging
for attention with my words. I am sharing
with new friends wondering why this has to be
and why so many of us turn to a means
of communication that has begun
to mean more than the human touch...

Yesterday, my pain was put aside.
My friend's worries became mine,
but if she could only understand,
that my "need" is just as great as hers,
and where was/is she
when my tears begin to flow...

Hi Wynter

In a way it's sad that computers are a substitute for the Human Touch you mention.

But a person who has compassion ,as you have, also has a cross to bear which is the same compassion. Some people are not as astute as others at spotting the signs of 'HELP'.

I suppose it is then that computers are a godsend because we have places like 'Passions' to take solace.

I s'pose its a two edged sword.

stay warm

Your heart is always so overflowing with love and empathy for all those around you. No ones life is free of some pain but please remember the hand you reach out to touch others with, is rare and that is why they come to you. They know that no matter how long it has been that you will be there to bring comfort. Strange to say but this is a very precious gift you have and though it weighs heavily on you at times it is a blessing that is priceless to those you touch. I hope and pray in the using of this gift you receive a measure of peace that puts at ease some of the troubles you have to endure. This poem touched me deeply. My heart goes out to you, dear one.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Words written from the heart. You have described how alot of people feel. They can open their heart to comfort others but yet can't show the pain they live with.
Yes, a computer is a cold machine but there are very warm hearts that read the words and care for the poet who writes.

I hope that in some small way, my words can reassure you to not feel so alone. I am well familiar with this feeling, of having needs and not having them cared for. We tend to so many others and it seems at times our own wants and to be denied.  It should not be this way.  Sometimes everything is not enough!  Even poetry can't sustain us when we need arms around us.  Take care of yourself!

-befriend yourself and you will never be alone-
