Rewrite:

    One meaning of a rose

I eyed a rose embraced its stem
Peerless treasure of velvets shed
To make of it a diadem.
A crown above my lovers head.

Cut, dethorned below the bell
I held it with a sympathy
Honey sweet with heavens smell
Its beauty held my empathy.

A petaled gem condemned to die
Majestic beauty held in sway
A bit of hedonistic ply
From ancient past and still today.

A given life, cut with a knife
A symbols tell, an offered spell
A fief sacrifice to life a
Hostage dwell in loves pell-mell.

Dipped in lovers adagio.
Placed and shot from a cupids bow.

When you rewrite, you take a crystal, and fashion a diamond...

cupid hits his mark
symbol of symbols, a rose
my heart sings love's song

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Once, when I gave a girl roses, she started to cry...because now they would die, she explained.
The next girl I dated, worked in a greenhouse...she brought me flowers.
Loved this, ST.

Oh my!  I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this one.  I have a book at home of all my favorites from the writers of Passions, and hope you don't mind I have put your poem into this book (for my granddaughter one day).  Thank you for this perfect gift of poetry.

Sir Sy, yet again you stir an "oh my!"
I love this! The grace and softness flows well in this, and your use of vocabulary and imagery is stunning! It's sheer beauty and perfection from your pen.  I NEED to borrow your muse

Of course, my library must have this~

Take care,
Melissa~
