~*~ Love Should Never Hurt ~*~

Am I shivering from pain or a summer’s chill?
The winds blow gently through my open window,
On what is a most peaceful summer day.
Softly kissing my pillow, my mind begins to wander away,
Reflecting on love’s caress, and how it made me feel.
For a second, a smile escapes my lips.

The leaves outside whisper softly in my ears,
The scent of summer’s perfume awakens my senses,
As dreams in my heart explode, and again begin to touch me.
In my mind, feelings of our past love and happiness ruptures.
The warmth of the memories of that smile, his smile,
Rekindle those feelings so long forgotten.

My heart had been so long searching;
I thought I had found my love a place.
With eyes shut tightly, holding back the tears,
The sun no longer shines upon me brightly.
As once again I awaken so all alone,
With consciousness slightly shaken.

Sadness passes through my heart as I remember
The fire that once burned in my very soul.
I can think only of him,
He who started those searing embers.
I can see even through his mask
Finding him though,
Is no longer a hard task, but impossible.

Suddenly, I can no longer see his face,
Hear his gentle words,
For no longer is there a place for me in his heart.
Tears like shattered glass splinter my soul,
As I watch the last of the embers die.
Saddened, I know I had to extinguish the fire,
For loving him burned my essence of being,
And love should never hurt.

"Tis better to have Loved and lost than to never to have Loved at all" so it's said. But Love does have symptoms and even in it's newness they are discomforting. Hey, if we knew the answers what the hell would we write of? Enjoyed.

Simply lovely.  This one says much to me.  Well done.

Your words are very poignant, yet we hurt and only hope it too shall pass.  I'm still in the hurting stage at times, yet embrace it as I grow, because for so long I had felt nothing at all.

Sharon, beautiful write but a sad situation. No, love shouldn't hurt, but it does, and it takes awhile to get over. Nice write here.

Sea: Yes it does hurt sometimes and from it we grow.

Richard: Yup, what on earth would I write about LOL.

Lone Wolf: So glad it speaks to you.

Gemini: I am glad you felt, for Richard is right, better to have loved and lost than loved not at all!  Healing is growing, and thank you for reading this.

Saunni: Thank you and yes this is a sad situation - glad it is not my situation and just a poem!

Thank you all for reading this piece.

Mysteria~

'There is a love so great that the pain of it embraces the ecstasy...
and makes a heart long not to love.'

You've portrayed that thought very well.
Nicely written, poetess.

Ahh, Mysteria, no, it should not hurt, but then to hurt is to be human also, and I wonder about the ones that can dismiss it all lightly..the crux of all of it though is the ability to go on, sadly, but on..very good write as per your usual, which I am glad to see you back in force...very gentle smile

Love should never hurt.....

But then there are just lots of should and shouldn't in life .......that one can get lost between the two.....

A really enjoyable touching read....and I loved the picture alot....

Thank you

OH, you've done it again, I almost started crying when I viewed and read this, I felt the words, they warmed and no love doesn't hurt, it's the loss of it, or the fantasy of it being gone that hurts....so mucy thank you so much for this.

I am so sorry I forgot I wrote this:

Thank you all so much for reading this, and it is "just a poem" trust me, if love hurt me, I would be out of there in a flash!  So, take heed all, love should never, ever hurt, and having been in that boat, I now know, run for the hills!  Thank you all again for always being so supportive of what I do.

Oh, Sharon...how beautiful and heart melting!
For so many years, my life was so reflective of this message you have so eloquently spoken...and I am an avid believer that love should NEVER hurt ~ love should be a gift that protects the heart at all costs...and I am so thankful I have finally been given that gift in someone so precious to me.  That gift has also been given to me in the treasures of your friendship, Sharon!  This was absolutely AWESOME!
Hugs and much love to you, ~*~ dawn ~*~

Ah Sharon, I think I will take your advice and run for the hills.  The hard part is the part that makes you feel good before the hurt begins.....Thanks for this, it fits my frame of mind at the moment.  *s*

Gentle Spirit: There is always good weather before every storm!  But if you spend more time in rain gettingn wet than in the sunshine, it is time to get yourself a new umbrella!  Hugs to you too!

Sigheyes: Nice to meet you, and glad you enjoyed!  I will now go read yours and apologize for having not done so before.
