I've always had an eerie inclination,
apparently possessed it from the start,
recognizing evil's incarnation
through the eyes I can determine a black heart.

Occurences too often to be chance
open now to critic's vitriolic,
I'll stand by what I say that in a glance
I know when I see the diabolic.

Not blessed to see the numbers lottery,
nor gifted with the touch of healing hands,
In fact I lack simple camaraderie,
but instantly I know the devil's brands.

Long I've walked this earth's dark corridors,
like so many seeking softer light,
nagging intuition won't ignore
a conscience which demands insight.

One man who for eight years was on the lam,
the FBI didn't have a clue,
plastic surgery, new life a sham,
America's Most Wanted did I view.

"The eyes" I told my then wife, "it's the eyes"
the last to see two women's shortened lives
I know it's up to me to exorcise
this demon or my sleep he will deprive.

Call made the miscreant apprehended,
the last I heard California's death row,
some think that I should be commended,
no pride have I another life must go.

Another time I had reservations
of three Hispanics in their native tongue,
not a tale of my discrimination,
My urge again, I dropped a dime and sung.

Right I was in my inspiration,
they'd shot a man the very night before,
while robbing him in a home invasion,
a bullet in the head while on the floor.

With pressure the cop's had turned them over,
one implicated others in the death,
leap frogs, they took turns in their rollover,
I left in silence, cops all held their breath.

O'er the years there's been a dozen others
whose souls along with evil had unite,
while I wish this curse consumned another,
I don't remember ever having fright.

I meet the gaze of every man I see
and women too (for there was one of them)
odd the only fear it seem's of me,
my eyes they dread and look away condemned.

Strange you'd think a man who holds the gaze
unflinchingly with the prince of darkness,
would in the eyes of love remain unfazed
not excluded from it's light in starkness.

Funny just how diversely fear is found,
all so different in our sources of,
this man who likely not much would astound
has come to realize that his fear is Love.

Well Richard I am glad you finally got that penned, and you did an absolutely fantastic job, you just forgot one thing - a disclaimer that this is the truth!  Fantastic work my friend, a keeper and into my library it goes.

thats one hell of a gift, but I see its burden as well. But sometimes we are not to question why we are bestowed certain qualities. You also have a gifted pen.
Another impressive write of vocabulary and cadence, as well as emotional impact.
take care

So that we will always be

How captivating! Have you written of this before? Maybe you should write a book about this. Wow...I just thought of something, (Not to poke fun) But could you come and test my Daughter's dates in a few years. That is a nightmare for me that she would be caught up with an evil man. Seriously, to know through the eyes. You look through their soul. I don't see things in people but I do sense danger in areas I don't belong. I think it's my Guardian Angel and not me though. Many times I've escaped accidents and happenings by (not) being there at the right time. Creepy sometimes. But I'm deeply thankful.
Sincerely,
Regina

The story goes that my grandfather could guage a man's worthiness of his daughter in one glance ~ if he didn't like what he saw, he left the room with nary a word and went to his workshop.

Mom would "honor" the date, but usually never saw the young man again.

It's a gift.

It is a gift. . . this was a remarkable poem. . . a story well told. . . to see what happened when the eyes revealed all. . .

Superbly done. . .

RSWells~
Smack ... right between the eyes with this one.
We share this *gift*?

I've often thought of the eyes as being the lens that photographs everything we've seen and done.
It isn't surprising to me ... that the 'developed' pictures can be seen by others.

The negative of evil, not surprisingly, is held in those 'beady eyes'.

No chills here ... just recognition~
A most contemplative piece.

Fascinating on many levels, Richard.  Leaves me pondering...  I wonder:  does this gift translate to photos too or does it have to be live, in-person?

Thank you all for your comments on something I've wanted to write for a long time. This only works in the presence of the individuals.........but O.J. did do it.
