A gathering from far and wide
Of poets here and there.
Scattered on the bench and side
At the poet fair.

The crowd begins to mummer loud
Their voice begins to stir
And as the "head" of poets vowed
He wore his suit of fur.

He said aloud through megaphone
"WELCOME TO THE FAIR!"
And as applause began to groan
The sound blew off his hair!

Retrieving it in maddened rush
He blushed and shied away
And combing back his hair by brush
He hoped his hair would stay.

Besides the hair, the show was great
And ran quite well indeed.
The poets sang, they read, they ate
And relieved their "wordy" need.

The sound of pencils clanking yelled
"OUR ERASER TIPS ARE GONE!"
The pens began to cramp the hand
And mouths began to yawn.

Papers flew around the tent
Floating up and down
And voices of the poets went
Loudly through the town.

Soon the town awoke quite sore
At the racket from the fair
They marched right up to shout, "YOU BORE
THE LIVING BREATHING AIR!"

But as they came towards the show
They heard a lovely sound:
The sound of voices laughing low
At poems read around.

They went back home and fell asleep
The poets stayed to write
And all around, the town was still
As poems echoed through the night...
