If I Were a Poem

If I could be a verse of poetry
I’d be a sonnet of a summer bloom
So fragrant, not of hearty potpourri
But of a scent that lovers would consume

Of all the fragrant blossoms summer yields
My verses would not sing of lupin blues
Nor lavender nor jasmine in the fields
Nor would it be a rose that I would choose

Soft yellow primrose. perfume sweet and fine
Would not entice a lover with such grace
As blooms with luscious nectar on the vine
That hummingbirds come closely to embrace

I’d end with one small couplet filled with bliss
Sweet honeysuckle waiting for a kiss

Marge beat me again (sometimes I think her and I share one brain!), Elizabeth you are indeed a poem, so pure, that each word you pen sings (at least to me)...this was so beautiful it almost had music to it.  I thank you silently every time I read one of your poems as they give me such pleasure.  I save most for my Granddaugher to read when she is older, as she is only 3.  You are indeed a poem, and I suppose yes, a lovely sonnet!

Loved this write, Elizabeth, especially the last lines.
But you don't need to be a poem, or a honeysuckle...  ~smooch~
(sorry if I pinched!)
I should go do a sonnet . . .

You mean, you're not??  Dear lady, I would say that you are poetry personified. . .

excellent. . . as always. . .

This is wonderful, Elizabeth.  I'm certain that Hallmark or a rival would snatch it up.  It's filled with powerful statements that touch the heart with tender beauty.

I can only nod in agreement to what others have said... you ARE a poem, you are poetry, you are the grace and beauty of words at their finest, you are thought of immediately when I think of verse. *S* Of course, you're so much more... but we all strive to achieve your shadow. *S* Beautiful!

And all of you are poems, as Sven has so skillfully shown us.
Thank you for your kind remarks
