One Breath At A Time

It's come time for closure in what I thought was for life
Good-bye is heard with what heart I have left
Allow me to sigh through these tears that silently fall
At what once were moments I knew best...

I will smile to the heavens and still it will never be real
A breath at a time to look back one last time
From what were words on paper that now is worn
Are lifes gifts to me I can no longer call mine...

Just one breath at a time I want to see your face
Let us run through those valleys we made long ago
For there's our field of flowers we created one night
When I was so certain you'd never let me go...

One breath at a time for the last time so I can close my eyes
And, forever will only be a moment we once had
Let me go back, one breath at a time, Dear One
To where our waters of pastels run along our path...

Slowly, but surely, I will take in all the air I can
And, will hold it as long as I can hold my memory of you
Just let me see our gold mountains we've stood upon
For one breath at a time is all I can do...

There it is, our light, far more brighter than the sun
One breath at a time I stare at this view
And,I walk far into my memory of this world
And,look back to still find my reflection of you...

One breath at a time I'll carry what you've left me with
And, a breath at a time I'll fade as the night
For dawn will give hope to some who always cries
But, for me, I'll drown in what I call life...

One breath at a time I hope you remember the wind
And, how it carried us to freedom within
When the sun dances on water you must know it is me
And, my last breath for prayers unheard once again...

I have, I've walked that road each time; that's where my angel sleeps

Saunni, how very tender, and heartbreaking, and yes, there has to be closure to heal and to move on once again, for our pathway always leads us on our karma, of whatever it may be..peace to you...gentle smile

An absolutely wonderfully, moving piece on closure, that speaks to the cleansing needed in order to move on as Logan said with our karma, and then it becomes just a piece of us put in its place, and not an all-consuming mass that overcomes us.  Well done!

This is very open and romantic...I know it's a reminisce of sadness but it's beautifully expressed!

The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up
spaces of consciousness and resistance; to language oppressions; to
re-language historie

Lovely written words, the verse "And look back to still find my reflection of you".  I appreciate what you've said here, the longing and loss are profound and we continue to heal, one breath at a time.

Closure is crucial to healing and moving on.  You write of it well.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.
