The Dragon and the Butterfly

The prettiest of colors vie
A dragon met a butterfly
It fluttered past his roving eye
And brought from him the biggest sigh.

He watched it in the passing breeze
It landed on his nose in tease
And nearly made him fire a sneeze
But held it down to just a wheeze.

The butterfly became his friend
He loved each moment she would spend.
She visited each flight of vend
And landed him from end to end.

And he would listen for her burr
Each touch just made him sing and purr
That made his heart to leap and stir.
And so he fell in love with her.

And he learned to sip raspberry tea
She served in a cup of flattery.

Once upon a time ... in the land of poetry and rhyme
a randy dragon caught the eye ... of a wanna be butterfly
he'd snort, spit and bellow ... but she saw thru the smoke to his mellow
and oh how that dragon poet could write ... in his words she saw the light
a lifetime of wisdom and grace to share ... with cadence cool and genius rare
looking at the world thru his all knowing eyes ... let her fly the endless skies
in his words she discovered treasures to behold ... truths of life engraved in gold
he took her to places she's never seen before ... allowing her tired wings to soar
this dragon was a little bad, mad, or sad ... she wanted him to see the gift he had
so she gave him her raspberry tea ... sweetened with flattery and sincerity
together they both again learned to fly ... this randy dragon and sad butterfly

for this is the gift of poetry land ... together we walk on beaches of understand
our quiet comfort found in verse and rhyme ... and love to stand the test of time

Wonderful, wonderful!  Absolutely delightful.  I went to a butterfly house a couple summers ago.  I so longed for the butterflies to land on me and on my daughter so I could get pics of them.  They landed, one at a time.  The pics---well, left a bit to be desired.

The only word that hung me up in the read here was 'burr,' that word has a sharp, negative feel to me.  Does it have a meaning that I'm unaware of the makes it fit within the context of the stanza in which it's placed?

WINKIEWINKIE STINKY.

Decaflane,
Beautiful comment, thank you.

Melissa,
Your wonderful comment made my day. *L*

VAS,
In this case, burr was a regional accent or accent of the butterfly. Thank you for the lovely remarks. Sy
