What should be a day of Celebration
Means little or nothing to me.
Hard fought days through depression
Makes one wonder how I ever succeeded

No family to cheer, no joy, no respect
I've settled once again in life for less
A pointless, meaningless, menagerie
A sheepskin with scrawled text

I don a facade as I make my way
To the arena of gawking spectators
Bury myself deep within, raising shield
To avoid those who approach me

Speak, quickly, let's get it done.
Procession moving slowly
Finally its over. I  discard the shield
And disappear into the crowd

The end of a meaningless trek
Now faced with more debt
No different than I was this morn
I wonder why I slipped on the robe

Home again. Facade put away
Placed in a drawer;saving for another time
When it's necessary to appear as though
I actually can care just a little bit

~ Mark Twain

Sure sounds like school was rough for that moment of culmination....

one day I hope you can look back and be proud of this, and your future accomplishments!

yes, sometimes those 'honors' and a dollar will almost buy a cup of coffee

but you have accomplished something for certain, that maybe others without family to encourage them may not

in fact, some who have family to encourage them still don't accomplsh those things

I still have my robe from 1989, and my medallion for honors' class, and I don't have a steady job...those honors seem so worthless at times, but it did take a great deal of work and time to earn them, that is my reward, to know I met my educational goal

Ceremonious pomp is over... now into circumstance of life.

Knowledge gained ... is knowledge to be shared.
Time to share.

Thanks for a ponderous view.

Startin Over,
this is a heavy write for such a joyous time, you did achieve!  You may realise the wonder of that as time goes by.
write on

Please take another look and see what you have done.  I am sorry there is no family to celebrate the event, but you can be proud.  Joyce

startin_fresh,

I am also sorry you have no family to witness your accomplishment, but stand proud.  Hold your head high and keep the faith and be happy.
