HAPPILY NEVER AFTER PART I

Far across fertile fields and raging rivers
Through woods filled with wooden slivers
Underneath the bluest of skies
Lies a castle built of stone and timber
Proudly do the heralding flags fly

Brightly does the sun ever shine there
Washing over the merry people clear

Rising up in the middle of the castle, a tower
Strong and tall, an example of the royal power
Parapets placed upon the top like a crown
The princess within, spends every waking hour
Forlornly looking out, and down

Fingers working the loom, spinning through time
Anything to ease her heavy, burdened mind

Below the tower, the people move unknowing
Their faces beaming, a happy countenance showing
Going about with everyday cares
While up above, constant tears flowing
A still and stifling silence in the air

As she waits with hands clasped saintly,
Waiting for her prince to return, patiently

HAPPILY NEVER AFTER PART II

Far across barren fields and bloodied rivers
Through woods filled with fallen soldiers
Underneath the darkest of skies
Fights a prince built of courage and vigor
Proudly does his singing sword fly

Vainly does the sun try to expose tears
Washing over the face, grim and feared

Rising up in the middle of battle, he does tower
Strong and tall, an example of his royal power
Arrows, axes and swords rain down
The prince, possessed, fights his greatest hour
Finally fatigued and outnumbered, he is cut down

Fingers working the straps, running out of time
Removing armor to ease his heavy, burdened mind

Above his form, the soldiers fight unknowing
Their faces hardening, a deadly countenance showing
Fighting others with their murderous wares
While underfoot, constant tears flowing
And a still and suffocating silence in the air

As he waits for the end to come, against death defiantly,
Vowing to one day return to her, he waits patiently

Oh my word, what a brave and tragic tale! I am quite disarmed by this lovely, sad story, Poetic Knight and honored, of course, by its dedication. This literally breathes of undying devotion, courage and valor. Congratulations on such a fine, poetic portrait and thank you, in earnest, for writing and sharing it.

You're very welcome Claire. What can I say? You and Sven started something here, with knights and ladies, chivalry, and romance. My favorite things, so thank you.

Indeed PK, a superb story that you've told here. . . I like that each could stand on its own as well as together. . .

I loved the way that you used the same rhyme scheme and mostly the same end words for each one. . .

Ok. . . that's the technical part. . .

And now, this is just superb. . . the images are wonderful. . . the stories are heartfelt. . . and the tale left me sighing. . . knowing that they will meet again. . .

Thank you for your words. . . may they, along with the memories of love like this. . . always last. . .
