Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-03-25 09:39 AM

Remembering

until you put
voice to word,
visions go, left
unheard

while all about
may softly creep,
trace of whispers
often seep

and silence
filters
through
the deep

genius echoes
through
twilight,
oft to wake me
in the
night

and voices
solid
run up my
spine, stolid

until I cry,
wanting
passion,
for love
without
is not in
fashion

but only
silent
raindrops fall,
alone I
hear old
Simon's call

~*~

     Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
     Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
     Still remains
     Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
     Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
     That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
     Ten thousand people, maybe more.
     People talking without speaking,
     People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
     And no one dared
     Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
     Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
     And echoed
     In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
     And tenement halls.
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

Sounds of Silence

==================

that one verse, speaks volumes K...
it applies to poetry as well as music.
and I have yet to ever hear that amazing song..and not feel that shiver of respect and awe go thru me.
thanks for reminding me of its gifts.

oh you speak to me in riddles
and you speak to me in rhymes
my body aches to breathe your breath
your words keep me alive

If you listen closely, Silence indeed speaks loudly. Thanks for the very intense read.

One of my favorite songwriters-must be a longing from my Jewish great-grandmother! Thanks for this.

Sunshine, sister giver of smiles.
Your words are wonderful!
And that song is one of the "heart songs" of my younger days. I love it!!!!!
Also, "Homeward Bound".
They got me through some really tough times.
Funny how the good always comes out in those memories of song, and the bad stuff has to fight its way through?
Thanks again.

I'm one of the few of my age that loves S&G. You really brought out the feeling here.
