I Wish I'd Known it Then

I was young,
A boy duelling with bad dreams,
Sitting before an exam question so important,
Left blank like my mind.
Now I know the answer,
I wish I'd known it then.

Come, drift along with me, two years later, eighteen,
Twisted thoughts strewn haphazardly around me,
But none that would answer the question,
Asked by another paper, tauntingly.
Now I know the answer,
I wish I'd known it then.

21, the time flown by,
Quite lost in memories now,
Sad memories that float fish pecked down neuron streams,
Trying to answer some ambitious question.
Now I know the answer,
I wish I'd known it then.

25 and you needed me,
You asked a question with your eyes,
Time and time again,
But I couldn't answer you...
Now I know the answer,
Oh, how I wish I'd known it then.

I love the metaphor here!--I hate that when your mind goes blank & you think of the answers or what to say later!   LOVE ELMO

Yes and sometimes I wish that I could be what another wanted me to be or I could provide what they wanted provided...but we only are who we are...James

Wow, Grubbymitts, this is quite a departure from your usual witticisms. I really like this style on you. But, how true, that we always know the answers too late. I look back on a certain time, and think, that if that were today, I'd know exactly what to do to make it right. How often we figure it out too late. But, again, I really like seeing the serious side of you
