For my Grandparents, Marcelo SanMiguel and Locadia Ponciano San Miguel

English Translation

he came
came from the only land he ever knew
to a land of promise and dreams
with the one he held as his own
here they would build a life together
here, his children would grow proud and strong
here, they would live in harmony

and so, they came
came with the dust of Leon on their shoes
came with the blood of a people in their hearts
came with the traditions of a generation in their souls
they came
and they built a life together

and, no, it wasn't easy
there were tough times and rough days
but together, the worked and saved
and they perservered and endured
even through the flames of a December night
that called two of them home and
left its mark on his body and his soul
and he continued

taking the lessons they had learned
the children grew strong, they succeeded
they married, they grew, they worked
they furthered the name of the family
and he continued

he continued
until that day when she could no longer remember his name
when he just couldn't take care of her anymore
          when he was alone
                             but yet, he continued

do they still remember the lessons they were taught?
lessons taught with a firm hand and a gentle heart
in that farmhouse in Gratiot County?
          he wonders
but he is old now, and so are they,
old enough to make their own decisions
and he continues

he looks in the mirror this morning
and he sees the man he was
rather than the one he is
he hears the sound of his children
and he smiles, and he laughs
the time has come for him to go

and yet,
          he continues. . .

Sven love, this is utterly superb, it looks like spanish, and I only know enough of that to ask how much is it, good morning, and Mmmmm? The title is The Continuation? or am I completely wrong. Please send a translation love, because it does look utterly ace. And I'd like to read it all the way through.
Take care love

Sven~
This is truly lovely.
I was able to translate most of it -
just beautiful are your thoughts and memories of a proud family.

Strong and beautiful Sven...it would truly have been a shame had you not translated it.

Power to you.

Sven,

I know they are proud of you.  He shall continue in death as in life.  For his spirit lives on through all of them.  Hopefully they will do him proud as you have.  Very well written.

Eres poeta supremo, y tu poema es maravilloso.  I have tried writing in Spanish, and have tried translating my English work into Spanish, and I am in awe.  Thank you for sharing this in both languages.
