Pale Ink

"The palest ink is better than the best memory." Chinese Proverb.

as it should be
                        to what could be
                                                    this is,
                                                                then,
what it is…

and I too, then
have a pale link of ink
to you

for I encumber my mind
(you do, too)
with one too many lines
and I could forget
(not that I would, willingly)
as to
what was set in said
as words trace across my head

except for the link
                             of the palest ink

so in retrospect
                         I shall link
                                           my lines to you
in palest ink
                    out of respect, to you

like old yellowed pages
and fountained lines
yesterday comes through
to you

when penmanship
was held in a woman's hand
and womanship was lined

so fine

on parchment
                       or linen
                                     or onionskin fine

in lace of line
in face of lines
in graces kind
silk-spunned webs of minds

I shall attempt
                       to hold on tight
                                                to my memories
but in the shadows
                               by candlelight

or pale moon's light

the palest ink
                      shall be, these links
                                                      yes, I believe,
my link
             to thee

I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.
