My dear friends, bear with me through this one.  I know that this is not anywhere near my usual style, but I just had to try out this little dip into fantasy.  I apologize for getting a little too long winded here, too, but I just started writing and couldn't stop.  (   )
Besides, Dragons are my favorite creatures.  How can you not admire their beauty and their strength?  Anyway, here goes......

Dragon's Tears

Darkness falls softly as daylight fades,
Slowly growing into deepest night;
The autumn wind washes a chill over me
As I stand in the cool, silver moonlight.

I turn my face towards the heavens
And close my eyes in silent prayer;
A longing wish from within my heart
That only the shimmering stars could hear.

As I opened my eyes and turned away
From the silvery light of the moon,
I heard a whisper upon the wind say,
"Your wish will be granted, my son."

I heard the softest flutter
Of wings beating against the night air,
And an ancient wise owl landed before me,
His eyes locked on me in a knowing stare.

From out of the darkness of the sky
Came an eagle swift of wing,
And slowly creeping up the hill,
Came the roar of the mighty king.

Then the moonlight gently parted
As from underneath the trees,
Came one of the most beautiful sights
That my eyes may ever see.

A unicorn of purest white,
With softly flowing mane,
Head held high with dignity,
Bringing a shower of rose petal rain.

Once again I heard the voice,
Like a quiet whisper on the wind,
"You asked for someone to share your life,
ease your loneliness, and be your friend."

"These creatures of nature and magic agreed
to help grant you this gift,"
I heard the comforting voice whisper
As the wind began to shift.

"The owl will share his wisdom,
the eagle his swift speed,
the lion gives his courage,
beauty and grace come from the unicorn steed."

"There is only one thing missing,"
whispers the voice upon the wind,
"And that I will grant myself,
for the treasure of a dear friend."

From the darkness and into the light
Of the moon shining high above,
Steps the owner of the soothing windswept voice
That sounded as if filled with love.

Before me stood a dragon
Of  the brightest golden hue,
He spread his mighty wings wide,
And said "This I give to you."

And he lowered his head toward me,
Gently tilted to one side,
And from his sparkling dragon's eye,
A single tear he cried.

Now, as we know, a dragon's tears
Are special beyond compare,
For a dragon's tears become diamonds
Upon contact with the air.

And the shimmering diamond tear
Glowed with the softest pulsing light,
Its purity unmatched within
The mortal realm of sight.

The dragon's tear became a soul
That bound the other gifts,
And slowly a figure began to form
Beneath the moonlight mists.

Then walking toward me softly
I saw you, my friend,
And knew that you were sent to me
Carrying magic within.

I can't say I have read any of your other pieces so i don't know what your usual style is, but this was great.  I say you continue writing fantasy.  I love stories of dragons!

Thank you!  I'm glad that you liked it.  I like the chinese dragons, too, but there is nothing that compares to the beauty or strength of a mideval type English dragon to me, I'm afraid.  Thank you for your kind words, my friend!

TerryW~
You may think of it as fantasy -
I find it fantastic !

I just loved the beautiful images that
you brought to the page.
It is a piece that should be illustrated
for others to enjoy.
Nice to see you posting again.

Thank you, my friend.  I'm glad that you liked it.  By the way, I like unicorns, too.  I guess I just like the mystery of the mystical!

Kit~
You are too kind, dear.  I am glad that you liked it.  I must say, I don't think I could have imagined anyone saying it wasn't long enough!

Victoria~
Thank you, my friend.  I am glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate your lovely comment!

Marge~
My dear, dear friend, I am so glad that you had a chance to read it.  I must say, I really enjoyed this one, myself.  It is so good to har from you, too.  I know that I haven't posted much lately, but I try to get on when I find the time.  Soon my going back to college will be over (on December 14 -- the countdown has begun!!!!!) and I will be "just working" again - LOL - so I will be around more than I am right now.  I would truly love to spend every waking moment on here reading all the beautiful works, but between my Visual C++ class and the new programming projects I have been having to turn out at work, the only thing I have been able to write lately is code.  Till then, however, I will drop by as much as I can, and though I am not here with you all the time, know that you are all in my heart!!!!

Love to All!

WOW! I have to say that this is an awesome poem. Try some more fantasy, you do really well at it. This may be bad advice but I'll write anyways. Don't just stick to what you're good at. Try new things. You'd be surprised.
