Doublespeak

Nothing flows from this pen
My job robbed half my mind
The left brain has taken control
Leaving the right side blind.

It’s all about cold calculation
Not about poetic expression
Eye of a camera watching
With thinly veiled oppression.

Security checks at each door
Tracking my every move,
Monitoring computer access
“They” that might disapprove.

Thought I could sneak a poem in
During the observed lunch hour,
But the brain implant had fits
Shutting down creative power.

George Orwell was correct
Just took a decade or so more
We’ve reached that pinnacle
Welcome to nineteen-eighty four.

psst, Corinne - I have diverted the camera for a brief moment or two.  Great poem.  Are you really working somewhere that uses this tight security?  Man - talk about scary.  I sure hope she doesn't find the camera I've hidden in her shower - woo hoo

And that is exactly why I left my old career.  One of the reasons anyway.  Don't like being watched over the shoulder like I am planning some scheme to bring down the whole company that I work my butt off for.  Nice to see you sneak one in though.

LgnJhn, you wouldn't believe it if I told you.  They even called me to verify that I really have two children when I got tickets for them for the company picnic, using my W-2 form. After I swirled a storm of blue, I gave the tickets back, me and my kids have better things to do anyhoo.

And about the shower, well, they do have them, haven't used them yet, but they are in the process of building a gym.  If I use the shower, I'll just flip them the bird for the hell of it!  Muhahahaha!

Thanks, Kit, well, we'll see if I last.  I'm probably too much of a rebel...

Yeah, Mark, it is really a very foreign culture to me.  Unfortunately, they're one of the largest employers in the area, and pay the best.  Golden hand cuffs.

Thanks, Marge, nice to know there is some refuge somewhere!

Thanks, JM, I'm surprised they don't limit the access with firewalls or sumthin'!

Golden handcuffs is right...sounds like a pretty derpressing place to work. I hope you find something more to your liking...and soon. I wouldn't go to the picnic either...who needs them. Great poem!

"It’s all about cold calculation

Definitely sums it all up!  That's exactly how I feel everyday.  I'd rather work with words than numbers!!  Great poem!

Makes me glad I retired - it was getting stinky before I left- Office e-mail was being monitored - and one couldn't even send clean jokes - but they hadn't yet begun monitoring my internet (outside the firewall) I just kept my browser clean in case of an inspection - could you bring in a laptop - and use netzero? ~G~

Thanks, Denise, Seymour, Lonely Stranger, Snowpants, Wilfred and Park, it is a depressing place, squashes all incentive to think out of the box.  Just collecting the pay for now.  I've never worked at a really large company before, never been hemmed in by these kinds of rules and security measures. Ahhh, well...

Thanks again for commenting!

Core.  Just carry a clip board with you all the time and then do whatever you want to do.

As for me.  I'm going to withdraw my application and reapply after legally changing my name to Authorized Personnel.

Rick, only if I get to change my name to "employees only!"

"Deer" - okay, but what would we be doing when I wasn't on the 'puter (she asked innocently)?
